Eating Disorder Nutritionist

Your relationship with food should not dictate every facet of your life. Unfortunately, for many, it does. I’ve been in your shoes, and as an eating disorder nutritionist, I understand the importance of finding nutrition that suits your lifestyle and empowers you to have a healthy approach to nutrition.

Hi, I'm Dr. Kate Brock, DCN, CNS, LDN, CEDS!

I’m a trauma-informed, eating disorder nutritionist providing virtual nutrition counseling to women and teens across the United States. My goal is to help you break free from the diet cycle and nourish your body without restriction, guilt, or obsession.

As an eating disorder nutritionist and body image coach, I work with clients through every stage of recovery, from active eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, etc. to those who are untangling diet culture and working on eating intuitively. My approach is compassionate, collaborative and client-centered.

I also specialize in gut and hormone support for women who are looking for a gentle, holistic approach to healing. Many women I work with in this area have an eating disorder history, and they need a gut/hormone approach that won’t put their recovery at risk

My Health Story

I know what it’s like to struggle with mental and physical health. From a young age, I struggled with IBS, endometriosis, ADHD and mental health challenges. I developed agoraphobia because I thought I was either going to get sick or have a panic attack in public. After years of struggling, I was told there was nothing they could do for me except give me medicine and send me on my way. The medicines I was prescribed made me feel worse and I felt completely helpless. Was I going to feel like this for the rest of my life? I was living at 50% of my potential because of my illnesses and felt like there was no hope. I no longer enjoyed my passions and out of desperation for feeling better, I started searching for my own answers. After healing my IBS completely and eliminating a large amount of my anxiety symptoms with nutrition and lifestyle, I decided to change careers and give other people that hope as well.

My Path to Becoming an Eating Disorder Nutritionist

I had an unhealthy relationship with food from a very young age. I started competitively swimming very young and my anxiety around that was extremely high. At 10, I had lot so much weight due to restrictive eating (now I know it was probably ARFID) that I was almost hospitalized. My mom worked with me to get back to a healthy place, but college presented different difficulties as a Division 1 Swimmer. I became passionate about nutrition after college, and being in the nutrition field for some time, I developed orthorexia. I was obsessed with everything I put in my body because I was terrified that french fries, a cupcake or anything that wasn’t completely “clean” was going to set off my IBS, anxiety or was going to make me less healthy. 2 years of being obsessive over everything created an entirely new problem and I didn’t know how to get out of. I was constantly thinking about foods that I “shouldn’t” eat and couldn’t even keep ice cream in the house without it being on my mind 24/7. Slowly, I let go of food rules and allowed myself to eat intuitively. I had already done the work to heal my gut and adding these foods back in that I thought would cause loads of inflammation (thank you diet culture) were tolerated well because I had already done the work to heal my gut and create a nutrient dense diet.

My Work with Clients

I aim to provide the balance I never had with my clients. I love clinical nutrition and helping people reduce inflammation and increase nutrient density in the diet, but I also recognize that there has to be a balance or the scale will tip and new problems like disordered eating can arise. I myself have achieved this balance and love helping other do the same.
